"Unions of Our Own" Book Release and Discussion in NW Arkansas

On September 16, members of the Ozarks Socialist Party alongside the Venceremos Labor Union, Northwest Arkansas DSA, Solidarity Union Network, Haymarket Books, and Bite Back Coalition hosted author and labor organizer Daniel Gross to Northwest Arkansas to discuss his new book, "Unions of Our Own".

The discussion was a free event and open to the public. The speakers for the evening were Daniel Gross and Venceremos' Executive Director, Magaly Licolli.

Northwest Arkansas is home to 3 Fortune 500 companies, multiple billionaires, and home to some of the most aggressive union-busting companies in the U.S. Northwest Arkansas, specifically Bentonville and Benton County, are considered a modern-day company town controlled by the Walton and Tyson heirs. As a central commerce hub for the U.S. and Arkansas as well as recent pushes by the Federal Government to push Arkansas into the forefront of weapons manufacturing for the Military-Industrial complex, highlights the need to organize workers in the region. It has become a critical issue for labor groups and organizers.

The discussion for the evening centered around rank-and-file union building and strategies, as well as a Q&A session for people to speak directly with the labor organizers.
