Statement on Los Angeles Protests

Passed by the SPUSA National Executive Committee 6/9/25

The Socialist Party calls for an immediate end to President Trump's federal activation of National Guard troops in Los Angeles, an immediate withdrawal of all federal personnel from the area, and an end to ICE arrests of law-abiding foreign-born individuals living and working in the United States.

Whether by accident related to his inability to negotiate or by design in an attempt to find an excuse for further occupation, Trump's actions are inflaming a situation that was caused by ICE's illegal and immoral crackdowns on workers and their families.

The Socialist Party calls for the elimination of ICE, the demilitarization of the U.S./Mexico border, and an end to police raids in areas where immigrants congregate. The party calls for full citizenship rights for all people demonstrating six months of residency in the United States.

To facilitate aid and assistance to groups working to oppose the decades-long bipartisan attack on immigrants, the Socialist Party has established a Migrant Workers and Immigrant Solidarity Campaign

The party calls on the Trump administration to end the short-term escalation of conflicts in Los Angeles, and urges Angelenos and all Americans to join the party's efforts to promote socialist solutions for all workers, immigrants and American-born. Capitalism works across borders to exploit workers, and so must workers cooperate across borders to build workplaces and economies that benefit all humanity.
