SPUSA Stands Against Government Mass Surveillance

Updated: 1h

We, the Socialist Party USA, refuse to allow our government to conduct mass surveillance in our name. On the people's behalf, the government has built a nationwide network of automated license plate readers (ALPRs) under many model and brand names that log the movements of millions of drivers. They have deployed AI-powered body cameras, facial recognition cameras, and spyware like Graphite, which can infect our phones to spy on our screens and activate our microphones without a single click. They have placed acoustic sensors in our neighborhoods that can capture our conversations under the guise of detecting gunshots. They have bought our location data from brokers to bypass the warrant requirements entirely. They have partnered with Amazon and other companies to turn private doorbell cameras into a distributed police surveillance network. We condemn the sprawling network of license plate readers, facial recognition systems, and biometric scanners that turn every public space, and private, into a checkpoint. We condemn the spyware, cell-site simulators, flock, Axis, Condor, Axon, svx devices, and other similar twisted mechanisms of their ilk.

They have hacked phones, tracked us, and compiled dossiers on citizens engaged in constitutionally protected activity. None of this was done with our consent. None of this makes us safer. It makes us watched, tracked, and controlled. We condemn these systems, the agencies that deploy them, and the elected officials who expand them without public debate or democratic oversight. We demand eradication of these systems.

We call for the people to rise up and actively resist the growing police state. We ask you to remember that all elected officials of conscience should be working toward dismantling this surveillance apparatus that does not make us safer. Let your city council member, mayor, or sheriff know that this is an intolerable violation to your rights in a free and fair society. Tell them you will not stand for your rights to be violated, and that you will act.

Statement drafted by the Anti-War/ Anti-Imperialism Working Group and passed by the National Executive Committee 9/21/2026
