Members of the Northern NJ Socialist Party joined community residents in a successful push for a "Montclair Trust act" ordinance to bar federal immigration agencies from township property and records unless they present a judicial warrant.
This campaign came out of a previous campaign to get Montclair to pass a resolution in support the proposed state-wide Immigrant Trust Act. While the township (and dozens of other towns & cities) supported that effort, the legislation was partially vetoed by the former Governor (Phil Murphy).
This push was focused on getting Montclair to pass a town ordinance which clearly defined where ICE cannot gather and to restrict the Twp from sharing information with Federal immigration authorities without a warrant.
This work was coordinated through ICE Out of Montclair/ICE Out of NJ/ Indivisible, Montclair High School student organizers and neighbors. It also received support from organizations like Resistencia, Cosecha NJ, Wind of the Spirit and more.
