NJ Socialist Party Joins Press Conference Opposing Bill to Impose IHRA Definition of Anti Semitism

The Socialist Party of NJ joined CAIR- NJ, AAUP-AFT, Jewish Voice for Peace, NJ Peace Action and other organizations at the Trenton State House for a press conference to oppose Assembly Bill A-3558, and Senate Bill S-1292, both of which seek to codify the IHRA definition of antisemitism and its examples into state law.

Adopting the IHRA definition would infringe on bedrock First Amendment protections and establish a requirement for universities to violate their educational missions and violate campus free speech principles. It has been routinely used as an instrument to silence people who speak about Palestinian rights, by falsely conflating antisemitism with criticism of Israel.

The bills are scheduled for a vote during the legislature's lame duck session in the next 2 months.
