With more than 20 other community and labor organizations, the Capital District Socialist Party (CDSP) organized this year's May Day hosted in Albany, NY. Our International Workers Day was a three four event, with a Zoom forum hosted the night before, followed by a rally with the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), a short march to the Washington Park Amphitheater, and performances and tabling at the Park.
The Zoom forum was held on April 30th and hosted Professor Michael Zweig, the Honorable Jaribu Hill, labor and beat reporter Monica Cruz, and lead NYSNA Albany Medical Center organizer Fareed Michelen. The discussion revolved around the path forward for the working class, recent union organizing defeats and the need for more inclusive labor representatives. The following day a rally was held at the Albany Medical Center where we celebrated our valiant nurses and invited local, state and national representatives to stand in solidarity with the NYSNA struggle for a fair contract. The march that followed was led by local community organizer Jamaica Miles, who was followed by NYSNA and rally affiliates waving red flags. We ended May Day at the Amphitheater where poets and musicians performed, community organizers spoke, and numerous community groups tabled to help engage those unaffiliated supporters.
