Socialist Party USA's National Day of Action Against Police Brutality

As part of the Socialist Party USA's National Day of Action Against Police Brutality, the Socialist Party's Twin Cities Metro Local, Capital District Local, and Los Angeles Local all organized banner drops in their areas. In addition to honoring Emmitt Till, solidarity with the nationwide prison strike was also expressed. The Chicago Socialist Party, the Inland Empire Socialist Party, and the Suffolk County Socialist Party all issued statements in solidarity with the day's actions.

The Left Coast Forum

Members of the Socialist Party Los Angeles Local met with comrades at the Left Coast Forum in Los Angeles, discussing future organizing possibilities. In addition, members of the Local participated in the Coalition for Peace, Revolution, and Social Justice's panel presentation titled "One Year of the CPRSJ: A New Kind of Anti-War Coalition".

Coastal South Carolina Host a "Really Really Free Market" in North Charleston

The Coastal South Carolina local held our first Really Really Free Market in North Charleston on Sunday, August 19th. We had multiple fundraisers, and through all our efforts along with the generosity of community members, we were able to provide around a dozen families with school supplies for the upcoming school year. We also gave away some home goods, bedding, and gently used clothes. It was a success and we plan to hold events like this again in the future.

Socialists in Central Alabama Escort Patients at Local Clinic

Escorting patients at the local abortion clinic is something the Socialist Party of Central Alabama has been doing since its inception. Many of our members show up during the pre-dawn hours to stand between the anti-abortion protesters and the patients. The Alabama heat is unforgiving, especially during the peak of Summer, but the work we do at the clinic is important. We’re there to use our bodies, along with a few umbrellas, to shield the patients from the cameras strapped to the protesters chests. Socialist Party USA Endorses August 21st Nationwide Prison Strike

The Socialist Party USA National Action Committee has endorsed the call for a Nationwide Prison Strike on August 21st. Strike Demands Demands (https://incarceratedworkers.org/campaigns/prison-strike-2018) Immediate improvements to the conditions of prisons and prison policies that recognize the humanity of imprisoned men and women. An immediate end to prison slavery. All persons imprisoned in any place of detention under United States jurisdiction must be paid the prevailing wage in their state or territory for their labor. The First Socialist Party Organizing Meeting in Long Beach, California

On July 31st, comrades got together in Long Beach, CA to hold the first Socialist Party USA organizing meeting in the area. The group set out a path to officially charter a Long Beach local, and began to outline the focus on their organizing efforts. A SWOT analysis will be undertaken at August's meeting, and at this point, it appears likely that organizing work will largely center on Long Beach's housing crisis.
